Unstable WiFi is one of the most common tech frustrations. Before calling your ISP, there are several things you can check and fix yourself in minutes.
Router overheating, channel congestion, outdated firmware, interference from other devices, or simply being too far from the router are the usual suspects.
Unplug for 30 seconds, not just 5. This clears the memory and forces it to reconnect fresh. Do this first โ it fixes 40% of WiFi issues.
Routers overheat when enclosed. Make sure it's in an open space, not in a cupboard. Overheating causes random dropouts.
Log into your router (usually 192.168.1.1) and change the WiFi channel. Channels 1, 6, or 11 are best. Neighbours on the same channel causes congestion.
Log into your router settings and check for firmware updates. Outdated firmware causes stability issues.
If your router supports it, connect to the 5GHz network instead of 2.4GHz. It's faster and less congested โ just make sure you're close enough to the router.
